	. *Gigartina pistillata* (Gmelin) Stackhouse (7cm) (=Fucus pistillatus Gmelin, =Fucus gigartinus Linnaeus) .
	Etymo: gr: carrying seeds; lat: pestle-like Etymo: gr: che porta semi; lat: a forms di pestello
	. Subcylindrical thallus with dichotomic, large angle, flattened branching; 5 to 20cm. Dark red to brownish red. The gametophyte and the sporophyte are similar; fertile thalli often carry supernumerary branches with ladder rungs arrangement. Perennial, photophyle species, found on rocks in sandy, shallow and sheltered biotopes. Tallo subcilindrico con ramificazioni appiattite, dicotomiche, a largo angolo; altezza da 5 a 20cm. Colore da rosso scuro a rosso brunastro. Il bametofito e lo sporofito sono simili; i talli fertili spesso mostrano ramificazioni soprannumerarie, con disposizione a "scala a pioli". Specie perennante, si trova lungo tutto il corso dell'anno su rocce e sassi in ambienti sabbiosi, superficiali, riparati e bene illuminati. .
